I was up in the air on which one to get and since there aren't many 80mm on the used market yet I bought the 90 for a real good price (actually saved just under $250 on it). ![]() It is fairly close focusing, about 23", and on the cropped sensor compares to a 135 on FF. The 90 fuji in my opinion is right up there with a 90mm from Leica. I rate all my lenses against the Leica lenses I have used as I have found none from any lens maker to be as good as what Leica produces. I would call the sharpness of the 90 Leica-good. Either attached to the camera or in my photo vest pocket. I rarely leave the house without that lens. I also shoot Canon full frame with all kinds of zooms, don't want to replicate that. I'm a prime kind of guy with my Fuji gear so 90mm is the longest available so far. If your only other lens is the 18 - 55mm for example, then either will work quite well.īut when in the park, to add angst to your decision, when shooting ducks with the 60mm prime, I found myself wishing for the 90mm lens. The dilemma between the 80mm and the 90mm is solved by what is your longest range currently with what you have. I have not tried the 80mm lens, but it is much newer in its release date so autofocus will have been improved. When shooting "not macro," the autofocus speed was just fine, up close shooting at one foot or so away from the flower, the focus hunted, but that's normal. I just used the 60mm, after picking up a used one, for a couple of hours in a park with lots of flowers. ![]() Macro's are suppose to be focused in auto, the plane of the depth of field is so shallow, measured in millimeters, that one puts the lens on manual and with ever so slight adjustments to one's body, the focus area is adjusted. Many complained about the slowness of the 60mm macro (not a true macro, not 1:1), but I suspect many of those complaints were prior to the X T1 updates, especially Version 4 and above, and updates to the lens. ![]() If you have some serious interest in macros then you'll be happiest with a macro lens.
