Turtles and frogs are at home in a couple of small pools, and you might spot a shy little lizard among the foliage. At your feet, not only does the path/flooring* change from room to room, but there is a precious little quail family running around. Above your head there are flowers, vines, and leaves in all sorts of interesting shapes. Stepping into the conservatory is like stepping through a door into a personal retreat for anyone who loves a variety of plants, rooms, and hidden spaces. There are at least a dozen of both ranging freely though the conservatory in the different rooms and searching for them gets you noticing all the details of the plants around you. Most fun is looking for turtles and quail. We like to see which orchids are blooming, there are always different varieties in bloom, perhaps to sniff a heavenly cattlya orchid. There is a tropicals room, and a desert room (favorites include the golden barrel cactuses and the Century Plant). During the holidays they decorate with hundreds of pots of poinsettias- very festive and enjoyable with all the color and variety. They decorate with hundreds of pots of bulbs in the early spring, we go to our dose of beautiful hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips. My daughter and I like to visit in different seasons, as they are always changing the displays in the first room you pass through. There is a small admission price (2 or $3 I believe). The Lamberton Conservatory is a lovely little greenhouse at the top of the hill in Highland Park.
